Omi Gibson

Cosplay may not be my thing, but it's still superb art form. I want to talk about one cosplayer who I think stands out from all the rest. She could may be the greatest. I'm talking about a Japanese Cosplayer named Omi Gibson. What I find most striking (as did many other people) is her very realistic portrayal of anime and game characters. Some might be trying too hard, but Omi Gibson is an expert in making her costume, well, believable.

Here are some examples of her work. I like them so much, I arranged them according to what I find is the best.

Motoko Kusanagi from GITS

I don't think this is her best effort but the way she poses for the camera, you could tell she is working hard to capture the same essence that the character that she portray has.

Saya from Blood+

She must be the master of making grim pictures. The blood on her cheek and the fearsome colors of her eyes can almost make her a live action TV star.

Nurse from Silent Hill 3

Look at the dried blood all over her uniform! You could tell her effort to making the costume as true as possible!

Jill Valentine from RE3

Picking the right materials and the right props and the right wig, you can make gamers fall for you.

Cyborg Ninja from MGS1

This is one of her attempts to play a male character. See how she picks the right lenses and the material of her costume to make it appear realistic yet comfortable.

Meryl from MGS1

This one is a photo genius! She copied the pose with exquisite detail and used darker shades to create a movie like interpretation of the game character. We all love to dream for a Metal Gear Solid film.

The Joy from MGS3

Her most well known costume. The tone of her skin beautifully fits to the costume. This is a perfect example of imitating your favourite character then making them your own.

Revy from Black Lagoon

I love Black Lagoon, and the first time I saw Omi Gibson was this picture of her as Revy. I've never seen such a cosplayer who could not only portray such an insane character but also act like one. If there was ever a Black Lagoon live action film, I'd rather have her or anyone with her skill to portray the gun-slinging Revy.
