Another better way to start the day. I was wrapping my books not only to protect it from wear and tear and dust, but also to keep in good condition for, my mom's suggestion, my grand children. Good idea, I suppose.
I kept going through Watchmen, hoping to find some hidden clues that hint on the overall theme of the story. The fun part is finding the meaning in one particular symbol: The blood stained smiley. One idea pops into mind of course, the death of The Comedian. If The Comedian stands as the parody of the the growing violent behaviour of the American people, the smiley (which is his icon for his superhero persona) can mean the death of the Golden Era of comic books. It means Superheroes today are far darker and bleaker the happier days of the 50s when Superman was a celebratory American hero and Batman is merely a dark figure with a heart of gold. 'All of this is joke,' is one iconic phrase of The Comedian. Imagine if we do have superheroes hanging about in reality, are they our protection, or our threat?
