Chasing Pavements

Friday, January 30, 2009
"What you're chasing is you're chasing an empty pavement," was Adele's words to describe a lone run on a long stretch of sidewalk after a difficult moment. Mainly the song is about infatuation. What if you decided that you are in love? Would you keep running away or would you finally tell the person you love how you really feel?

I think everyone needs a song to cheer them up. The A level results may have taken the strength from most of us but I try to be optimistic. So here's to all of you who are still running to escape the pain. There is no need to keep on chasing pavements when it leads nowhere.

I've made up my mind
Don't need to think it over
If I'm wrong I am right
Don't need to look no further
This ain't lust
I know this is love but

If I tell the world I'll never say enough 'cause it was not said to you
And that’s exactly what I need to do if I end up with you

Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere

I build myself up and fly around in circles
Waiting as my heart drops and my back begins to tingle
Finally could this be it

Or should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere
Yeah

Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there
Should I give up or should I just keep on chasing pavements
Should I just keep on chasing pavements
Oh
Oh

Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements
Even if it leads nowhere.

I remember listening to this song last year on one of my bad days. It gave at least some cheering up while I watched the music video which is spectacular by the way. Please check this youtube link right HERE.

Internet's working great!

Now we can surf in the newly made up library. I apologies to everyone for not updating my blog much. Since the PC was transferred up in the new library (where my former room was before) the inability for the E-speed to work upstairs had pushed us into desperation and forced us to work everything in this PC with a USB WiFi. Mainly I depended on this PC for blogging so I hope this explains my occasional inactivity.

The reason we get excited with Pet Society. Featuring my Pet: War.

Oh, a public message.
Prom Tickets are on sale for $20 singles and $35 doubles from Nisha, Ummi, G and I think Adibah has the tickets as well. Ask your friends if they got the tickets.
It will be in Asma Hotel on the 7th February. A Saturday night. Starting on 7pm. Come with your friends and the food!

Renewing Old Passions

Saturday, January 24, 2009
I spent most of my time at home drawing really. With my favorite graphic novels in hand and a mechanical pencil in another, I drew and drew to my hearts content. Every time I see the blank sheets of paper in front of me, my imagination goes wild.

It's funny because during the last two years I thought I gave up drawing. You see, earlier in my life I believed drawing is everything to me. Then the passion started fading away and making way for my other passions: rugby, blogging, films, music.

My love for comic books never changed though. I remember the V for vendetta film came out then I really wanted to read the graphic novel. When I finally had it, I was engulfed with its writing that I wanted to read more of it. Watchmen made me understand the beauty of combining visual art and brilliant writing, but it wasn't until I had Blankets that got me hooked to it. I've mentioned Blankets a great number of times, that's how much love I express for the novel. Believe it or not, it was this particular graphic novel that got me back to drawing again.

It's like going back to my old self again. The moment I pressed the pencil on the paper, my hand works its way with missed familiarity. Skills don't fade away and neither are your old favorite hobbies.

The first page of the comic I'm working on. Here's to renewing old flames.

See you Zym in 2 years

Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Here's to Zym, a good friend, a great friend, the best friend a person can ever have. It just proves it when you come to the airport, nearly everyone is there to say their last goodbyes. Last goodbyes, it's never a goodbye. We'll miss you in these two years while you are in the UK. Write to us, email us, whatever, just remember us because we will.

Who could forget all the funny things and the comfort and all the hugging and happy memories? Who could because Zym is one unforgettable friend and we will definitely miss you.

Honey and Clover

I never thought I'd be spending my time watching Anime. Honey and Clover is just a distraction while I wait for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to be lent back. It is definitely a long time since I watched Anime extensively (Like Elle who must be killing herself with watching all 300 episodes of One Piece). Maybe because I thought the fandom here is pretty extreme (or the way I call it, Anime Syndrome where viewers become the characters, and I'm not talking about CosPlay) which scares me. So here I am, sitting in front of the computer with the fourth episode of Honey and Clover while I write here.

The opening is the creepiest thing I've seen recently. Claymotion of different food items with morbid messages starting with the banana waffles and the chocolate man in the plate (like a car crash O_O) and some really awkward animations. Awkwardness defines honey and clover I believe. Check it out some time, just watch out for the bowl of shrimp in the end O_O.

Sackboy memories - Hidayat's Little Big Visit

Sunday, January 11, 2009
LittleBigPlanet really is a small world. Hidayat recently bought the game and the PS3 so he was eager to learn some new stuff from Zani and I (most of our friends think we are the 'wisemen' of gaming. Zani, however, earned himself the nickname 'The No.1 source of gaming info in PTEB'). We caught Hidayat online in the Playstation Network so we decide to hang out in LittleBigPlanet. We played the same videogame even when we were miles apart.

Hayat and Myself

It's amazing because he's miles away in the United Kingdom while we're at home sitting on sofas. It's like he's holding the other controller and hanging out at our house, so far yet he felt so close. I believe that's the magic of gaming and the internet. After dashing through a level and crashing my stuff, even in the UK he could still wreak some havoc at my place T_T

This just proves that today's games need no invisible walls. ^^
Thanks Hidayat for the fun.

Brunei Cyber Games III at ICC - See you there!

Friday, January 9, 2009
It's every gamer for him or herself! Zani and I will see you all in ICC for the 3rd Brunei Cyber Games. This is the first time to use the latest generation consoles (and it's all PS3 everyone) with some of the hottest title selections for the tournament. Of course, our eyes are on the Call of Duty 4 tournament.

Flat Screen TVs! Woot!

We registered on the first day of registration for Friday and news say Friday is packed. Will there be any interesting challenges here? Though Zani and I will go against each other, and the other 14 COD4 players, our plans is to go divide and conquer. First prize is an ETA voucher for $300 so if we can get that position, we can finally get the games we were planning to get ^^.

There's still Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and RockBand (woot!) so what are you waiting for? GO register or see us play!

It's already Rugby Season

Interesting training yesterday. I came along because I was brought to believe there is a Bandar Blacks and Sixers game. Turns out it was like any other normal training. I wasn't disappointed because finally the original blacks came back today. Not all of them, but most of them I expected to see.

A female joined us for training today. Took me awhile to recognize she was Mona whom I met before as Dan's friend from ISB. I always respected women rugby players partly because there aren't any here and mainly because a woman who could handle aggressive sports deserves the respect. So yeah, Mona is cool and so is Shawn from Australia because he has got wicked rugby skills. It's amazing to see such ball passing skills as well (which I remind you is rarely seen here hehehe) like a breath of fresh air.

Hansie joined us as well, but I believe he's there as a temporary coach while Tladi was training the U18s and Ben Peacocke was off training the UBD sharks. Hansie would have been great with the blacks but I think he's training the police as well (and our Sixers training are partly from the original police plan). Hansie, of course would make a great teammate and a great opponent in a game.

Now it's rugby season, I can't wait for the next line of games with some new and experienced players in the team. League starts off soon and I bet every team is now rigorously training to overthrow the blacks in the Darussalam Cup. Whether I play or not, I am now eager to see the action.

Here's a reminder to everyone.

See you all in the field of battle. ^^

Malibu

Friday, January 2, 2009
Do you have a place that specially affects you in your memories? Four years after the fateful unfortunate suicide of rock legend Kurt Cobain, this song is a remembrance of one of the many events that affect us in some ways, particularly Cobain's visit to a rehab clinic in Malibu. Drive away to Malibu, a place to live again. It reminds us that we all love and miss Kurt and that we should not waste our lives because there are beautiful things in life that are till waiting for you. Here is "Malibu" by Hole.

Crash and burn
All the stars explode tonight
How'd you get so desperate
How'd you stay alive

Help me please
Burn the sorrow from your eyes
Oh, come on be alive again
Don't lay down and die

Hey, hey
You know what to do
Oh, baby, drive away, to Malibu

Get well soon
Please don't go any higher
How are you so burnt when
You're barely on fire

Cry to the angels
I'm gonna rescue you
I'm gonna set you free tonight, baby
Pour over me

Hey, hey
We're all watching you
Oh, baby, fly away, to Malibu
Cry to the angels
And let them swallow you
Go and part the sea, yeah, in Malibu

And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And the sun goes down
I walk into the waves
And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And I would

And I knew
Love would tear you apart
Oh and I knew
The darkest secret of your heart

Hey, hey
I'm gonna follow you
Oh baby, fly away, yeah, to Malibu
Oceans of angels
Oceans of stars
Down by the sea is where you
Drown your scars

I can't be near you
The light just radiates
I can't be near you
The light just radiates

Happy New Year

Thursday, January 1, 2009
It is now the year 2009. Alas, I lacked the celebratory mood I was supposed to have at midnight. I surfed the internet and played my guitar to practice licks, read Mario Puzo's The Godfather despite watching the film previously and spoiled myself with episodes of Heroes, I curled up in my blanket in the newly made library and made drawings for posting which sickly reminded me of the person I desperately needed.

So here is I want to say to the person I desperately needed:
Like I always did every year, I gave you a call. Well, numerously. Every call is useless if you do not pick it up. So I sent you a text message, a little break in tradition that we shared, and still no answer at this moment. Not even during Christmas, not even when my cat died.

Where are you? What is the new year worth without you calling to say Happy New year?

Well, it took me time to get over it but it is always troublesome to have every happy or sad moment and not share it with you. I'll follow your advice anyway: "Can't catch fish, eat shrimp" and I do love shrimp and I do cherish every advice you gave. As long as I can celebrate my new year with you in mind, I don't have to worry about anything anymore. What's that saying? "Always there in Spirit" ?

Best not think my new year is ruined because it isn't. We should always try our best to enjoy so we could lock away the pain and shame we had experienced in, finally I get to say it, last year. Though it never gets the way we planned and expected, we can always make lemonade.

I did have a helping of waffles. Cheese, butter and honey. Now That's how I want to celebrate.

Welcome to the new year 2009 everyone, what lies ahead will definitely be an adventure so keep your head high, your belts buckled and your zippers closed. Make everyday a party because we need no happy ending, just happy beginnings.
