Market Cannibalization

I think I just found my favorite word in Marketing yesterday. It's called Cannibalization under Market Segmentation.


It's when one segment of the market eats up all the profits made from the other profits even though money is equally spent to improve each of them, creating more liabilities than profits.
However, this is how it ended up,

Ms Dyla: "Ok, class. What is the meaning of Cannibalization?"
Me: *hand raised* "It's when you're hungry and you're desperate"

Ms Dyla: "Actually, Ziggy's analogy is correct."
Me: "WHAT??"
